We first met Melissa Collver when she was the Curator of  the Waterford Heritage And Agricultural Museum. She did a wonderful job with her gifted volunteers.

An number of months ago, she was promoted to her present position of Heritage and Culture Manager of Norfolk County. The position had sat vacant for six years!

So what is there to manage!  Well there are 5 museums, the War Memorial Carillon Tower, Norfolk Arts Centre, the Alligator Tug, the Quance Mill in Delhi and the new addition, the Port Dover Lighthouse.

Of the five museums, Collver will be directly responsible for the County's four municipally-run museums in Waterford, Port Dover, Delhi, and Teeterville. The Eva Brook Donly in Simcoe is owned by the County but run by the Norfolk Historical Society. It's not all bricks and mortal and restored mechanical Alligator Tug. There is also a Norfolk Heritage Committee who advise council on heritage matters.

Melissa can definitely hold her own when confronted with good-natured heckling from one of our "cultured" tables. She also found herself in the middle of an internal debate about which is the culture capital of Norfolk County -- Port Dover or Simcoe. This has been going on for months. Each group has their rampant supporters. It's all good-natured of course.

When Melissa opened up the floor to questions, she soon found herself knee-high in Alligators! That is Alligator Tugs! Rotarians are passionate about their Alligator Tug and identify with it closely! The Alligator tug is presently beached and stored in a County compound.
